Past ASIA Event:
Building An Asian American Women’s Movement - Dec. 12, 2002
The Massachusetts Chapter of Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy
(AAPIP) & the Asian American Resource Workshop (AARW) invite you to a Community
Briefing of the
book, Asian American Women: Issues, Concerns and
Responsive Human and Civil Rights Advocacy, by Lora Jo Foo.
Recently published by the Ford Foundation, the book details the
civil and human rights violations inflicted against Asian American
women. The book reveals the struggles of Asian American
women at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder where
hunger, illness, homelessness, sweatshop labor, exposure to
hazardous chemicals and even involuntary servitude are
everyday realities.
As part of a ten-state book tour, this briefing is the collective effort
of national and local organizations to educate our communities
and foundations on the issues facing Asian American women.
In addition to the author's presentation, the community briefing
will include local Asian American women who will speak to the
main issues of the book which include: welfare reform,
low-wage workers, domestic violence, health care, and LGBT
(lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) concerns.
Thursday, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., The Paulist Center, Basement Auditorium,
5 Park Street, Boston, MA. Light breakfast will be served.
Please RSVP by Tuesday, December 10th, to
ejlee@aarw.org or 617-426-5313.
Copies of the book will be available at the briefing.
