Past ASIA Event:

Women's Health Forum - Sept. 21, 2003
Featuring Jamie Roseman, Grassroots Organizer from Planned Parenthood, Mass. and Marty Hackett, Mid-Wife from South Cove Community Health Center. Join us for an informal forum on health issues for women. Topics include birth control, GYN, peri-menopause, and issues that specifically affect Asian women. Also learn about current legislation and how they may affect your health care, and what you can do to advocate for your health issues. Come with any questions you have. Light refreshments will be served.

Jamie Roseman, the grassroots organizer from Planned Parenthood also talked about the upcoming SAVE WOMEN'S LIVES - MARCH for FREEDOM of CHOICE which takes place April 25th, 2004 in Washington, DC. In a politically conservative environment, it's become increasingly important to show our support for reproductive freedoms - including access to birth control as well as safe and legal abortion.

Marty Haggerty, mid-wife from South Cove, spoke about the common medical issues that API women are treated for, but stressed without funded research & studies, there is insufficient data to identify genetically-based illnesses for API women.

Many of the attendees asked if this would be an annual forum. If this is something you would be interested in coming to next year, let us know.

Also, Marty stated an urgent need for on-call interpreters for women in-labor. Bi-lingual women in Vietnamese, Cantonese, and Mandarin sought. If interested, please call her at South Cove 617 482-7555 or e-mail her at mjhackett@rcn.com

Noon-2pm at the New England Medical Center, 800 Washington St. Suite 8002, Boston. By T: Orange Line to NEMC stop. Take Washington Street exit. The NEMC Atrium Building is across the street. Take the elevator to the 8th floor.

Join ASIA today! Get immersed in your community.
