Hong Kingston Book Reading - Oct. 16, 2003

In the early 1990s, Maxine Hong Kingston lost everything, including a novel-in-progress The Fourth Book of Peace, to a devastating fire that raged while she attended her father's funeral. Starting anew, The Fifth Book of Peace moves from memoir to fiction and back again. Kingston (Woman Warrior, Tripmaster Monkey) weaves her own story of loss together with the stories of war veterans and a remarkable pair of Chinese-American war resisters. In Maxine Hong Kingston's hands, the stories of war and its terrors become a literature of peace.

At Simmons College, 3rd Floor Conference Center, 300 The Fenway, Boston. 7pm Directions

Co-sponsored by Center for New Words. More info or to volunteer, contact ASIA.
